So, I have chickens living in my house… How is that for a conversation starter?

Fall is my favorite season, but this year I’m really looking forward to it. It’s been one of those summers… Not only would I like to start my fall garden, I want my game room back.

The chickens spend the night in dog kennels in my game room and most of the afternoon in their coop/run. They do every summer, but usually only in the middle of August. This year it’s been a three month long thing, because our hundred degree heat started in early June this year. It does this every few years and to be honest I knew it was coming because we’ve had several very mild summers; so sadly, we were due. Unfortunately, I live in an area where there is not enough wind flow, so it gets and stays over 90 degrees in the coop, even after dark. So instead of roasting the girls I bring them inside.

My grandfather is probably watching over me from above doing a big face/palm, shaking his head, and chuckling. It is really cute though; the girls line up at my back door and march themselves right on inside. And in the mornings they march themselves right back out and into their coop. They also pace at the coop door if they think it’s too hot and want me to bring them in. I must have the most spoilt chickens in the entire state of Texas. Still, I’m tired of cleaning kennels twice a day.

Other than being a crazy chicken lady, I’m trying to get myself back on a writing schedule and I typically autumn has always been when I write the best. As some of you may know from my coming soon page, I’m trying something different. Instead of working on one project at a time, I’m trying two simultaneously. I’ll see how it goes.  I may end up switching to one over the other, but for now I’m trying to devote time to both while trying not to melt 😉

There is a cute meme that was circulated a couple of years back about The South’s seasons. My son and I redid it for Texas:

Hunting

Pollen

Tornado

So much Pollen

Tornado

Attack of the mosquitos

Summer

More summer

Even more summer

Please, Lord! let this summer end!

Football

Tornado

Fall

Just kidding, here’s some more summer

Tornado

Winter

Christmas

Maybe one more summer

In reality we are at Summer or maybe more summer, but mentally I’m at Please, Lord!  Let this summer end!

I hope all of you are having a great summer!

Until next time…
